Beyond the Hedges

Rice has deep and broad connections with the city of Houston, one of the most diverse cities in the nation, an epicenter for innovation and home to the world’s largest medical complex. Thanks to the Moody Foundation, students can leverage these connections to learn, serve and make an impact.

The Irwin M. “Buddy” Herz Community Outreach, Leadership and Engagement Fund promotes connections between the Rice campus and the broader community. A speaker series will bring local and international thought leaders to campus and an internship program will allow Rice students to serve the community in positions beyond the hedges.

“I grew up in the Moody interests as my father was the tax consultant for all of the Moody entities. My closeness with the Moody family included a shared love for the City of Galveston and a devotion to our state. My representation included a collective responsibility to serve our community by making the community a safe and supportive environment for individuals, families and businesses. I am so grateful to the Moody Foundation for honoring me through this contribution to my alma mater, and I hope this endowment helps to further connect Rice with the City of Houston.”
