With new funding, the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice will implement the innovative programming and experiences that maximizes their potential for creativity.

The Libbie Rice Shearn Moody Fund for the Arts will provide support for programs at the Moody Center that encourage creative thinking, enrich curricular innovation and promote cross-campus and community collaboration through transformative encounters with the arts.

LIBBIE RICE SHEARN MOODY
Born in 1869 to a prominent Houston family with close ties to William Marsh Rice, Libbie Rice Shearn was named after Rice’s second wife, Elizabeth. She met W.L. Moody, Jr. in April of 1890. They were engaged the next month and married before the end of August. Devoted to her husband and four children, Libbie managed a growing household and contributed to local clubs as well as hereditary organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
